How to Delete Your Hinge Account
The steps are simple. The subscription caveat is the part most people miss.
Deleting your Hinge account takes about sixty seconds, but there is one step most people skip that keeps charging them.
Whether you found someone, burned out, or just want a break, deleting your Hinge account is straightforward. But there is an important distinction between deleting and pausing, and if you are paying for a subscription, deleting the account does not stop the charges. Here is exactly how to handle each scenario.
Should you delete or pause your Hinge account?
This is the first question to answer, because the two options do very different things.
Pausing hides your profile from other users. Your matches and messages stay intact. You can come back later and pick up where you left off. If you are taking a break but think you might return, this is the right choice.
Deleting permanently removes everything: your profile, your matches, your messages, your preferences. It cannot be undone. If you are done with Hinge entirely, this is the clean break.
How to delete your Hinge account on iPhone
- Open the Hinge app and tap your profile icon in the bottom navigation bar.
- Tap the Settings gear icon in the top corner.
- Scroll to the bottom of the settings screen.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Hinge will ask why you are leaving. Select a reason or skip.
- Confirm the deletion. Your account is now permanently removed.
How to delete your Hinge account on Android
- Open the Hinge app and tap your profile icon.
- Tap the Settings gear icon.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
- Select a reason for leaving or skip the prompt.
- Confirm. Your account, matches, and messages are permanently deleted.
How to pause your Hinge account instead
- Open the Hinge app and go to Settings.
- Tap Pause Account (listed above Delete Account).
- Choose how long you want to pause: 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, or indefinitely.
- Your profile is hidden. Existing matches and conversations are preserved.
- To unpause, go back to Settings and tap Unpause Account.
How to cancel your Hinge subscription (do this first)
This is the step most people miss. Hinge subscriptions are billed through Apple or Google, not through Hinge directly. Deleting the app or deleting your account does not touch the subscription. You have to cancel it separately.
Cancel on iPhone (App Store)
- Open Settings on your iPhone (the system Settings app, not Hinge).
- Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
- Find Hinge in the list and tap it.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
Cancel on Android (Google Play Store)
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon, then tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Find Hinge and tap it.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Cancel the subscription first, then delete the account. That order matters.
What happens to your data after you delete Hinge?
When you delete your account, Hinge removes your profile from the app immediately. Your matches lose the conversation thread. According to Hinge's privacy policy, they retain some data for a period after deletion for legal and safety reasons, but your profile is no longer visible or active. If you want a copy of your data before deleting, you can request it through Hinge's settings under "Download My Data" — do this before you delete, because you cannot request it afterward.
If you are leaving because the format burned you out
A lot of people who delete Hinge are not leaving because the app is bad. They are leaving because the format — the feed, the paywall, the swipe-and-wait loop — wore them down. That is a real and reasonable reaction to how modern dating apps are designed.
If that resonates, it is worth knowing that a different model exists. Apps built on a daily-five or curated format — where you see a small number of people per day and mutual interest is required before anything begins — change the pace structurally rather than just adding a filter on top of the same feed. Kindex is one of them, built specifically for high-intent interracial dating with exactly five introductions a day. But whatever you choose next, the format matters more than the logo. Our guide to the best Hinge alternatives sorts the options by what specifically tired you out.
And if you are not sure whether the burnout is about the app or about dating in general, our piece on why swipe fatigue is a design problem is worth reading before you sign up for the next thing.
Frequently asked questions
Does deleting Hinge cancel my subscription?
No. Deleting your Hinge account does not cancel your subscription. If you are paying for Hinge+, HingeX, or any premium plan, you must cancel the subscription separately through the App Store on iPhone or the Play Store on Android. If you delete the account without canceling, you will continue to be charged.
What is the difference between pausing and deleting Hinge?
Pausing hides your profile temporarily but keeps your account, matches, and conversation history intact. You can unpause anytime and pick up where you left off. Deleting permanently removes your account, all matches, all messages, and your profile. You cannot undo a deletion — you would need to start over with a new account.
Can I recover my Hinge account after deleting it?
No. Once you delete your Hinge account, it is permanent. Your profile, matches, and messages are gone. If you want to use Hinge again, you will need to create a completely new account. If you are not sure, pause your account instead.
